A modern building standing proudly in the southern slope of Mount Merapi. More precisely, it is located in the Village Harjobinangun, Pakem, Sleman, Yogyakarta, or about five miles from area attractions Kaliurang.
The building is the Museum of Merapi Volcano (MGM), which was inaugurated on October 1, 2009 and then by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Purnomo Yusgiantoro.

The museum is built on a land area of 3.5 hectares with the main building area of 4470 square meter museum is expected to be an asset to the new geo-tourism in the province of Yogyakarta (DIY).
The museum is also useful as an educational vehicle for sustainable conservation and development of the science of disaster volcano, earthquake and other natural disasters. With vision and hope that's Merapi Volcano Museum was introduced with the title "Window Merapi Earth."

Like a temple, Merapi Volcano Museum also has a railroad, legs, body, and head. According to the philosophy of Hinduism, the head of the cone-shaped volcano, which is analogous as the lifeblood of community.

While on the lobby walls are filled with reliefs depicting the life and human volcano. At the center of the lobby presented a large-scale mock volcano complete with steam.
In the lobby while the right wall there is a museum-making process that starts from the signing of the MoU, the development process, and will soon be equipped with the momentum of the inauguration of the museum.


In addition to a lobby area, the Museum Mount Merapi, the rooms are equipped with a theme of Volcano World, On The Merapi Volcano Trail, Man and Volcano, Earthquake and Tsunami Disaster, Disasters Landslides, Diorama, Survey Tools, Extra-terrestrial Volcano, Film Show, and other supporting facilities.

Rencanaya, the museum will also be developed as a tourist site complete with a representative by the park, parking area, and the plaza as the means and facilities for visitors to the museum. (Irp)
